after playing with Dave's 98 custom, since my cocker stopped working Angry, i really want a tippmann, but i cant choose between the 98 custom with a flatline and stock, or the X7 with a stock. Plus I don't want my halo to go to waste, so i might also want the 04 prostock autococker down at the shop. Plus can i get some suggestions  Huh

I've never used an X7 or a 98 but...

A friend of mine uses an X7 and has had nothing but trouble with the feed on it.  (I think it's called a cyclone feed?)  When his CO2 bottle gets below 1/4 it does not feed reliably, CO2 remote or on the marker.  I don't know if this problem would persist with HPA or not.

His response trigger requires almost constant adjustment depending on how full the CO2 tank is.

He also likes to carry wrenches around in the thing and it rattles more than the muffler on a 1978 Dodge Omni.

It's also really bulky, and you're considerably smaller than him so it's going to be even worse for you.

He's made several complaints about the flatline he bought for it, it requires expensive paint otherwise he gets lots of barrel breaks.

And he's always screwing around with some bolt you have to remove to remove the barrel?  I don't know what he's doing wrong, and I can't imagine why Tippmann didn't just give it a threaded barrel like everyone else does.  Maybe threaded barrels work too well...  Grin  I have video of him somewhere wrestling with this barrel in the middle of a match, I think he got a squeegee JAMMED in the flatline and couldn't get that bolt out.  Meanwhile there's a firefight going on around him.

Of course, he's can be a bit of a dumb@ss at times and probably didn't RTFM.  Try it though, maybe you'll like it.

Make sure you talk to Dave about the X7 and the 98 before you make a purchase.  Wink  He has experience with both.

Here are my 2 cents.  I really like Tippmann's markers.  I have several 98's with the flatline.  I almost never have issues with them.  They are great for woodsball and when you need to watch your shot count.  I did have six X7's and I was the marker rental for woodsball.  I would buy them from eBay and then fix them up changing out any parts that needed to be changed using www.Tippmannparts.com, (but use the link from our website to get the parts it will give the team credit for future deals).
When working good the X7's were great.  But the key word was WHEN they were working good.  They seemed to take a lot of adjustments to keep them going.  The speed feed is a neat idea, but it had many issues once you used it for more than semi fire.
The X7's flatline sucked.  It did float the balls farther, but with little accuracy.
The 98's flatline you used, it is very deadly for accuracy at longer distances.  (with slight troubles using dimpled RPS Polar Ice, but it will always be hard to get a dimpled ball to fly real strait)
The A5's if you want to use the cyclone feed seemed to work so much better than the x7's, but I have never owned one (nor did I have to work on them much for others).
The bottom line comes down to what you want.  If you like a cocker and want to shoot lots of paint get an electric.  if you want reliability and to not spend much get a 98 with flatline.  I've seen 98 go for $60 new on eBay and then you pay more for the flatline which hovers around $85 with a few dips here and there. I have picked up a couple for $65 once.  I recomend a stock to help with the accuracy also, which makes it too big for speedball although I have done well playing the back field with it.
I hope that helped if not ask more I'll answer any questions that I can.

The older flatline system chops cheap paint pretty bad you'll have to use higher grade paint. As far as the 98 goes they have a multitude of upgrades and are extremely reliable.
